If you are searching for hookah in Süleymaniye, this hilltop neighborhood next to the great mosque hides some of the best-placed terraces in Istanbul for it. Mimar Sinan Roof, a short walk from Süleymaniye Mosque, has become one of the most requested hookah spots in the historic peninsula — not for size, but for the Bosphorus and Golden Horn view, the fruit-and-ice presentation, and the fact that you can watch the sun go down while the coals settle in.
Why Süleymaniye Is a Good Place for Hookah
Most of Istanbul’s well-known nargile cafés sit at street level in Tophane or Çemberlitaş, table after table with little space between them. Süleymaniye is different: it sits on a hill above the Golden Horn, and a small number of rooftop terraces here look straight across the water toward Galata and the Bosphorus beyond. A hookah session at that height, after sunset, is a different experience than the same session at street level — quieter, with the call to prayer from the mosque next door and the lights of the old city below.
Hookah at Mimar Sinan Roof
On our rooftop terrace, hookah is set up the way we would want it done for ourselves: fresh coals, cleaned bowls every time, and a choice of glass setups arranged with fresh fruit, ice and mint rather than left bare on the table. Sessions pair naturally with tea, Turkish coffee or a cold drink, and the terrace stays open well into the evening, so a hookah after dinner — or a session on its own with friends — both work here.
What to Expect: Setup, Tobacco and Flavors
We keep a rotating selection of classic and fruit-mix tobacco flavors; ask your server for the current list when you arrive or when you reserve, since it can change seasonally. A single bowl typically lasts 45–60 minutes and is easily shared between two or three people over drinks and conversation.
How to Reserve a Hookah Table
Hookah tables with an unobstructed view fill up quickly around sunset, especially on weekends. The easiest way to reserve is on WhatsApp or by phone at 0530 911 14 00 — just mention that you would like a table for hookah so we can seat you accordingly. You can also book directly through our reservation page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is hookah legal in Istanbul?
Yes. Smoking hookah (nargile) is legal for adults in licensed venues in Turkey, subject to the same age and indoor-smoking rules that apply to other tobacco products.
Do I need a reservation for hookah?
It is recommended, particularly for a table by the edge of the terrace at sunset. Weeknights are usually easier to walk into without booking ahead.
Is there a minimum age?
Yes, guests must be 18 or older to order hookah, in line with Turkish law on tobacco products.
If you are planning an evening around hookah in Süleymaniye, reserve your table and combine it with dinner or a late drink on the terrace — the Bosphorus view does not close early.
